Taking its inspiration from his interest in the Brutalist style of architecture, Mulcahy aims to encapsulate the minimal and “ugly” aspects of brutalism by presenting 4 new pieces of music that vary in style with the use of contrasting instruments.

“The Hard Core Of Beauty” features Mulcahy’s usual arsenal of analog synthesizers, various percussion instruments, acoustic guitar and piano. Releasing on April 4th 2025.

“I have been sitting on these pieces of music for about a year & wanted to take as much time necessary to reflect on where they take their inspiration from and ,of course, get the mixes and arrangements right.
It was not until I saw the film “The Brutalist” (from where the EP takes its title), that I knew the EP was finished. An example of this style of architecture can be seen in the photo cover, which I took in Berlin November 2024.

Really what I’m trying to do with this EP is produce beautiful music that features very harsh and rough sounding instruments in places, but can still be seen as beautiful compositions”
